How does Body Composition assessment work
Body Composition Assessment using ImpediMed devices takes as little as 3 minutes to complete.
ImpediMed devices use a non invasive method which passes a low-level electrical current through a person�s body and the opposition to the flow of current is then measured. A person�s Total Body Water (TBW) can estimated because the electrolytes in the body�s water are excellent conductors of electrical current.
When the volume of TBW is large, the current flows more easily through the body with less resistance. The resistance to current flow is greater in people with large amounts of body fat (FM) as fat is a poor conductor of electrical current due to its small water content. Fat-free mass (FFM) i.e. muscle and bone, can be calculated from TBW also, giving a complete Body Composition Breakdown.
